you can stop that by protecting your tweets.
some advantages are:
keeping in touch
following what you like
you can talk to people about what you like within the same page. (game talk in game page)
following companies can mean that tweets will display what jobs are available
you don't have to reply to your tweets by going on the site as you can do this by mobile phone
some disadvantages are:
it can get addictive for people
arguments can happen with randomers
randomers can constantly follow you
the more you follow the more tweets you will see so it can be awkward to scroll down to see tweets from your family/friends
no integration between Sony Entertainment Network and Twitter on PS3
