Our Gamertags

Its probably come to a point that some users on here want to post their online IDs to find people to game with (xbox, steam, playstation).

Im wondering if permissions will be changed so that users can post their IDs onto here? I mean user communication can always be blocked if a user does another users head in.

Thoughts??

  • Hi - whilst private messaging is something we're looking at, it's certainly going to take some time and would be a costly upgrade.

Once we have it, people can share gamertags , they are by their nature at least somewhat anonymous.

I think this is a great idea. I have a son with Aspergers, likes playing Xbox live, but when playing with friends and cousins who are not ASD, then sometimes does not work out as they don't follow the rules in his opinion. Having a ASD Xbox community could work well or at least worth a try.

  • It would be nice to set up like a private messaging feature seen on other forums. I know that would probably take some time to setup though. Not everybody will want to give out personal details so i do agree with the measures your taking of not letting anyone post personal details on the forum, due to some users not wanting to do it. Not every parent will realise what can happen if they allow their kids to post their details onto here. It would be good to have an NAS clan on xbox/ps3 or steam but it doesnt look like that is going to happen anytime soon. Id think that if posting personal privacy was allowed on the forum then users could leave.

  • Hi,

It's certainly something we're considering alongside all kinds of personal communication. Gamertags themselves are treated as the same as emails, phone numbers or any other personal data.

There's a number of reasons why that blanket ban is in place - mainly related to the vulnerability of certain people at different times. Specifically there are issues about how people may have problems around boundaries when helping each other and how vulnerable parents can be to offers of 'cures' or miracle treatments for autism.

Keeping everything contained here mitigates those risks but we'd be the first to recognise how limiting that can be. People can't chat in private, can't get a good game of MW3 going, can't arrange to visit a support group together...

So as always we'd love to hear other views and how helpful people might find private contact and the sharing of contact details. But if it was to change it'll be something that'll take time and will have to be done carefully.
