Parent to adult Aspbergers

Hello everyone, I am mother to a 36 year old son who lives with me and my husband. Our son has recently told us that he is pretty sure he has Aspbergers. He works full-time which he finds very stressful and exhausting, he has no friends and very rarely goes out socially. He is such a lovely guy and has so much to offer but he just seems to be wasting his life shutting himself away from the world.

He has rigid routines, hates change, is often depressed and angry, rarely comes out of his room. I hoped to be able to understand Aspbergers and to get some support for myself because I worry so much about what will happen to him. He seems so lonely and has given up on finding a girlfriend after a three-year relationship that he ran away from and a few rejections -all several years ago. I would be so grateful for any advice and information so that I can also support my son and understand how he is.

Thank-you for taking time to read my post and hope someone out there might help.

I was amazed and encouraged to read your response to my appeal for support. Your idea of looking in the Aspbergers magazine for books which might offer suggestions for helping our family members seems like a good place to start.

Thank-you too for the information about Aspbergers dating sites. My son gets angry and defensive at any suggestions about self-help but he might come round to being more receptive in the future. It is very difficult to broach the subject with him and I guess many Aspbergers family members might be in the same situation. I hope that you don't give up on helping your sister. She is lucky to have your support and love and I hope you have a breakthrough with her.

Please keep posting your comments and stay in touch. It means so much.
