Parent to adult Aspbergers

Hello everyone, I am mother to a 36 year old son who lives with me and my husband. Our son has recently told us that he is pretty sure he has Aspbergers. He works full-time which he finds very stressful and exhausting, he has no friends and very rarely goes out socially. He is such a lovely guy and has so much to offer but he just seems to be wasting his life shutting himself away from the world.

He has rigid routines, hates change, is often depressed and angry, rarely comes out of his room. I hoped to be able to understand Aspbergers and to get some support for myself because I worry so much about what will happen to him. He seems so lonely and has given up on finding a girlfriend after a three-year relationship that he ran away from and a few rejections -all several years ago. I would be so grateful for any advice and information so that I can also support my son and understand how he is.

Thank-you for taking time to read my post and hope someone out there might help.

  • Hi Mattiesmum,

I hope you can find some support and advice on here,

I too have found this forum for a very similar reason.

I'm wanting to help and support my sister, but I want to find out the best way to do it.

My plan of action is to keep looking on here, I've signed up to the Aspergers United Magazine and am on the look out for books that explain Aspergers in particular regard to adults. I felt I was more useful to her when she was a little girl and now she's an adult, I feel at a bit of a loss.

Best of luck! Keep in touch.

Maybe if Mattie is looking to date you could tell him that

There are online dating websites specifically for people with aspergers, it could be a good way for him to get chatting to individuals with similar interests etc.
