Politics

I am not sure if Politics has been discussed before as a hobby and special interest before hence this post. Politics is mine and has been for about 10 years now and I have a degree in the subject 2:2. In addition to the education I am actively involved in Politics as I am a member of a political party, member of a local Executive and member of regional and other party bodies. I am also actively involved in the Party social media groups. I am very good with dates, facts and figures and I can recite legislation. I was interested in trains as a child and now I know a fair bit about rail policy including  doing a policy analysis on rail franchising. I am intersted in policy rather than the campaigning side.

Are there any others on here with similar interests to mine and are actively in politics?

  • I have a strong interest in Politics too, particularly Scottish Politics.

I follow current events in the Scottish Parliament and Westminster and am listening to First Ministers Questions as I write.

I am not a member of any party however as I have not always agreed with all the policies put forward by any one party.

In general I feel more socialist than conservative and more green than big business.

I would like Scotland to be independant and a member of the EU.

    Laddie.

  • I have been into politics for many years, but to be honest, the current state of affairs is putting me off a lot.

  • Hi Morgsie,

While I do have a strong interest in politics it is more to do with public policy rather than party politics, though this can be hugely affected by which party is in government.

This interest came from being involved in a non profit board and looking at how we could support our community by linking in with local and national policies and concerns in identifying potential areas where we could have greater involvement.

I am a strong believer in public funded services, but also when those services are underthreat or taken away there is scope for community driven solutions where we stop being the recipients and design and run our own solutions which is then driven by user requirements.

In particular in finding sustainable projects, which may need initial funding to start but can be self sustaining or realistically self funding.

I have found one of my strengths is to be able to connect different strands of thoughts to come up with solutions, often by something seemingly unrelated which often offers a solution to missing pieces. These interests have included a wide range of issues including housing, envrironment, youth, elderly, inclusion and loneliness to name a few.
