My Little Pony

Anyone else with this obsession here? :P

It was absolutely massive in internet nerd culture around 2011-2012 (and is still pretty big now) so certainly it picked up a lot of those kinds of personalities that sometimes coincide(?) with the autistic spectrum.

As for me I couldn't really be more "Brony" if I tried.  Always in forums about it, huge collection of figures, plushies, t-shirts, go to conventions, etc.  If there's a flat surface there's a pony on it, if it's a vertical surface then a pony sticker.  And as anyone who knows the show/characters would spot with the username, there's usually some indication of my interest somewhere.

I really love how much creativity there is in its community.  So many brilliant fanmade videos on Youtube.  So many good cosplays at conventions.  Etc.  There are um, infamously less tasteful corners (don't ask) but I really think they're something of a minority.

Generally speaking when I get into things I get into them really heavily and for years.

  • Well I'm really glad you didn;t get offended by my reply as I have a tendency to offend everyone all the time even when I explicitly try not to D: haha :)

"I've heard far worse reactions, ranging from okay that's weird to thinly veiled accusations of paedophilia and/or zoophilia"

Well, that sounds aggressive and unnecessary. But I can see why it sometimes happens, as you wrote in your first post:

The problem is when you associate yourself with a movement which has such dark corners, they spill over in the general public's view. Not saying that's right by the way - but that is what happens.

I'm a big goth / metal-head so I constantly get people thinking I'm going to turn their baby into a goat and then sacrefice it to Cthulhu... with pentagrams, lots of pentagrams. But no! I'm just a big softie really.

I haven't seen the show since my sister used to watch the old show with my Grandma when she was little and obviously I couldn't change the channel when others were watching the TV D:

I used to give bronies a lot of s**t but have since grown up a little. In the goth / metal scenes there are a lot of very elitist people and I fell into some bad behaviour.

As soon as I realised that tradgoths (traditional goths) called eberyone else "baby-bats", and that the baby-bats grew up into goths and started calling the next generation "emos"... I began to realise that a lot of the prejudice was complete hog-wash. Guess that goes for your circle too.

Massive respect for the social bravery though! I think I'll stick with ma' trench coat. Always happy to meet new people and hang out though.
