Steppenwolf

I'm reading the novel Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse. It strikes me that he is probably  autistic . A  complete  loner, misfit, who puts on a mask of respectable behaviour but has a wolf like second self (in fact many many selves are within him), and this  causes great distress. He  craves intense experience approaching the divine, and can't stand  conventional compromise. He's a lone wolf amidst a flock of mediocre sheep. Alone and abandoned, seeking refuge within the very society he is apart from. His  landlord's nephew views him as an alien, strange and peculiar. He views the world with incomprehension. A great read. I'm half way through. Any one else read it?
