Anyone else here into anime?

As you can tell from the title, I'm wondering if anyone else here is into anime. I personally mainly like some more classic animes from the 80's, 90's and early 2000's, certainly cyberpunk stuff, but I have watched some newer ones like Toriko, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Space Dandy and a little bit of One Punch Man. My favorite anime series of all time has to be Hellsing. I also go to conventions and I cosplayed as Space Dandy at one last year. Also, I only signed up today and I couldn't really be bothered writing an introduction, but I guess this could constitute as an introduction of sorts.

  • I didn't like the way the original ended, especially the movie, I think they'd been punished enough by then and above all it just got kind of weird.  However other than that, I agree with you on preferring the original non-canon anime.  Plus the soundtrack was way better IMO.  The "Brothers" song can still put a good lump in my throat.

  • Oh I forgot about FMA! I really liked that too, both versions! 

    OK,  here's the part where I get shot D: I preferred the original anime, which was not based on the manga (please don't kill me!) 

    I just felt that in the 'real'  version the mythology behind the hommunculi (is that even how you spell it?) was less dark and that the brothers got let off too easily for their transgressions. 

    In the original (fake) anime there were some REAL consequences and everything got really dark. I know that's not a popular view but there you go! 

  • I need to get back into anime!  Not seen that many but have seen Evangelion, a lot of Naruto (switched to the manga though after a while), both versions of Fullmetal Alchemist etc.

    Oddly enough I'd been put off a little recently in that other interests of mine led to "chans" (imageboards) where it's cool to be offensive and "edgy" and they all seem to post schoolgirl anime reaction images in the process so there's a mental association there :p  Silly I know.  I'd never been into the schoolgirl animes though anyway and have always gravitated towards Shonen.. so yeah Naruto, FMA etc.

    Currently enjoying the American (but anime-like) animation Steven Universe a little too much to have time for anything else, mind!

    I like a lot of the newer gory stuff like Knights of Sidonia and Attack on Titan. Who ever started making zombies also giants D: thanks for all the haunted dreams.

    I also really like loads of older anime such as all the Hayao Miyazaki anime. I love Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (especially due to its post-apocalyptic themes), Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and My Neighbor Totoro. Oh yeah and don't forget Spirited Away: aka - Japanese Alice in Wonderland :')

    As for newer stuff I like Death Note, Claymore, Basilisk, Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain. Interestingly Wolf's Rain is one of the very few dubs I don't actually hate to the point of seething through my teeth (usually I prefer subs over dubs). Some of the CGI stuff like the full version of Advent Children is alright too. Now there's a good example of turriblre dubs. Kadaj spends half the time talking about sheep and black sheep... what were they actually thinking!?

    I was introduced to anime when I was much younger through mainstream anime like Naruto and Bleach which I no longer watch due to... well, I'm sure you know why lol.

    Shout outs to Japanese-style animations which are not technically anime like The Boondocks (great fun) and Afro Samurai (amazing).

    I love AnimeThough im not a hugh fan of the voilent stuff, but i am a fan of Yu-gi-oh!. I even got a few japanese comic books. Have you heard of it? 

    Also, theres a series on youtube done a hilaroius english guy called littlekuriboh, and he has dubbed the entire season(s) of yu gi oh - check him out, ITS FUNNY!

    WARNING: it does contain rude jokes and gags, buts its funny (dont watch if your under 16)

  • I love anime. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is awesome, and so is One Punch Man.

  • I have watched a couple of things in the genre, including Cowboy Bebop.
