I agree with you Tom that some people might think that autism may be used as an excuse to claim benefits.
The dilemma in my mind is just that, that I will be judged to be using ASD as an excuse for not trying hard enough. So I am torn on whether to insist on a formal diagnosis or to just let it lie as it is. If the answer is no, you are not bad enough to justify a diagnosis, then I will feel like a fraud.
I think the mental health of the world, never mind UK, is getting worse by the year, and governments are struggling to cope. I see on the news the tragic story of how many young girls are now reporting mental health problems. I blame the awful celebrity culture you mention Tom and advertising, for screwing people up big time. Also the roles of men and women have changed so dramatically in my lifetime that its difficult to know where things are heading.
I see you plan to move away Tom sometime in the future. I have done so myself but it did not turn out the way I hoped. The baggage always seems to catch up eventually.
