My new obsession

Dont know if this is the right place for this, but i just wanted to ask

if anyone else has taken an obsessive interest in Autism and had to learn all they can about it?

Since getting diagnosed recently i seem to be reading up everything i can about Autism and Aspergers syndrom. Is this because i can relate to the condition as i have it, and is this a healthy thing to do?

Thank you

  • Absolutely. Why wouldn't you want to learn more about it? I particularly enjoy reading books by people that have had to cope with ASD, as people on the spectrum and more so from non-autistic people that are close to them, to find out what their perspective is.

I recently read about the horrid ways autistic people have been treated in past years, which I think has led me to another much more positive book advocating what employers need to do to enable our inclusion, instead of thinking of us being people that 'can't do'.

I can definitely say that I am not ill because of my constant learning about autism, but I cannot say the same for my wife, who has revealed she is sick of my obsession. I just explain that I would only just be obsessed with something else. She accepts.
