epsom salts baths to aid sleep

Hi

Has anyone bathed their childrens in epsom salts? I have done a lot of research and discovered that if you bathe your child in the epsom salts they absorb the magnesium that cannot retain which aids sleep for ASD sleep disorders. I have used them with success but not sure how many baths a week i should give my child. I did four in a row and he slept 8-9 hours straight and last night I didnt and he was up his usual 3-4 times which is disruptive to us all. I have also heard of magnesium spray for their skin but need to research that....thoughts anyone please

  • I have mixed results....jack is more relaxed and thats a good thing all round for us and him. Hes calmer and less meltdowns..actually no meltdowns at all. Made him a bath last night but hes getting a cold so didnt have a good effect last night..glad I am not the only ones using them..

  • I've been using it in my son's bath for a few months and not sure how much it works but it definitely relaxes him. He soaks in the bath with salts for about 20 minutes. I've tried not putting the Epsom salts in and not noticed a lot of difference. I think maybe the body needs to build up the minerals before it has any effect therefore the odd bath without salts will still have good effects if that makes sense.

  • Hiya

We've tried many things. My son gets off to sleep ok but wakes up to four times each night for the last ten months. Weve always had a brilliant nighttime routine which we still do four years in but nothing apart from the salts has worked. Research indicates that insufficent magnesium is retained by kids with ASD..Magnesium helps to relax us and aid sleep. Just wondered if anyone had used epsom salts at all. Thanks for the reply

  • Have you tried a similar bedtime bath routine without the Epsom salts? That way you might discover whether it's specifically the salts that are making the difference.
