Harry Potter (SPOILER ALERT!)

Any other Harry Potter fans out there?

Some thoughts about Harry Potter and the Cursed Child:

  • Delphi is the child of Voldemort and Bellatrix (let's just park the image of Voldemort copulating and never, ever think of it again) - was Rodolphus Lestrange dead by the time she's conceived or was Bella just playing away?

  • Voldemort used Harry's blood for his regeneration in Goblet of Fire - does that make Harry and Delphi genetically related in some way? (Quite apart from the fact that they're both descended from the Peverells so are distantly related anyway)

  • Delphi's currently residing in the comfy confines of Azkaban (is it still guarded by Dementors under Hermione's Ministership? I doubt it...) - sounds like we're all set up for a sequel...?
  • I'm sure I'm not the only one to figure it out - there were lots of clues along the way, both in the books and the films. Eg - Prisoner of Azkaban film: Snape's first reaction when Lupin transformed into a werewolf was to try and shield Harry, Ron and Hermione. Eg - Order of the Phoenix book: he refused to provide Umbrage with veritaserum so she could question Harry AND he alerted the Order when Harry said, 'He's got Padfoot at the place where it's hidden!'

Little clues, but for a HP detective, enough to be going on with...!

Dobby sounds like an excellent mascot!! x

  • Hi there LTG - like you, I've always had a soft spot for Snape, and I ALWAYS knew he wasn't really a bad guy.

Way back in the mists of time, just after Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published, someone asked JK Rowling why 'Snape didn't wear the turban instead of Quirrell'. She replied, 'Because I know Snape, and he wasn't going to put that turban on...'

I spent the next six books looking (sometimes desperately) for clues that Snape really WAS a good guy after all. I confess I struggled with this one after he killed Dumbledore on the Astronomy Tower! Still, turned out he DID have a heart in the end, even if it was only for Lily Potter.

Gosh, how different the story would have been if Severus hadn't got involved with the wrong crowd at Hogwarts, and he and Lily had married instead...

My absolute favourite character is Dobby though - brave and loyal and a true friend. Goodness me, I cried buckets when he died .

And you're absolutely right - we should never judge people on what we see above the surface. Very well put.

    Elspeth.
