Stop these 'Captcha' things please!

OK, I know it was me who made the big fuss about the spammers who were spoiling this forum a few weeks ago.  And appreciate that the new 'captcha' code thingamy you've introduiced after every attempt to post anythingf (regardless whether one has successfully logged in or not) must be intended to weed out the spammers.

BUT, it is EXTREMELY annoying to have to run the gauntlet of typing vague and ambiguous characters into a 'box' before knowing whether one has wasted one's ime completely or not.

Please look at other forums. There are plenty that seem to work successfully 99.9% of the time without resoprting to this ridiculous palaver.

Thank and good night.  I'll be back when you've sorted this. (I can;t be arsed going back to check for typos - I'm sure there are several, if not many - my apologies to anyone who find this irritating - I know how you feel!)

    Hi Technophobe,

The post about the composition of the forum must have come from one of the people who have been placed in the moderation queue (e.g. CC, longman et al) - there is a "feature" of the website that lets their posts through to subscribers on a thread but does not allow it to appear on the forum. There is no conspiracy here as far as I can see. There is just a buch of guys trying to keep a forum going for the benefit of a charity - not normally a well rewarded position and not normally a position that has a lot of resources to call on.

I had forgotten how long the china attack had been going on - I guess that we had both posted requests to the mods to take action. I'm sorry if you thought we were arguing about who should get the credit for raising the issue - I guess that the mods got plenty of complaints. I used to work for a company that suffered denial of service attacks and it is really difficult to work out how to filter out the spammers without stopping the websites business from continuing.
