Obituary: Helen Green Allison

 


NAS founder, Helen AllisonSad news today. Helen Green Allison, who was a founding parent of The National Autistic Society, died aged 88 on 26 December 2011, just months before the charity celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Helen was born in Princeton, New Jersey, USA, on 7 February 1923 and adopted England as her home from the time of the Second World War, when she worked in Military Intelligence.

To the many thousands who have benefited from the support and services of The National Autistic Society, Helen Allison will be remembered as a passionate, proactive and hard working woman whose influence in service provision and transforming the understanding of autism is immeasurable and will continue to permeate every corner of the charity and wider world of autism. In recognition of her achievements in the field of autism, she received an honorary MBE in 2006.
