bedroom tax exemptions for aspergers tenants

can aspergers tenants be exempt from bedroom tax

  • We have a family member young adult who uses an additional bedroom used as an extra space for safe play, chill area. It also helps if we have emotional times, outbursts swapping from room to room. A sort of taking away the negative and creating a positice, works well for us. As regards bedroom tax we have to pay. But as its been said this could vary.

  • I'm not sure if that is generally the case or not.  It may well vary from place to place, as Housing Benefit is administered by local authorities (like council tax) rather than central government.  So the place to go would be your local authority website or advice centre, or maybe the Citizens Advice Bureau.

I do remember a while ago when I was last receiving Housing Benefit they did ask me about whether I had any disabilities or not, but I'm not sure what the reason was exactly (I didn't know my diagnosis at that time, so took it no further.)
