Hi
I have recently completed my sons (he is 12) application to renew his Disability Living Allowance, it was originally granted in May 2014 before he had been diagnosed and he was in his last year at primary school.
Things are exactly the same in most areas and I have answered the questions exactly the same with examples etc of what i feel affects him in these areas, but then there are areas that are worse his sleep is awful, some nights he is still awake at 2am, and I am with him on my own as my other half works nights, it takes me 60 mins to settle him with many trips up and down the stairs, they will not prescribe him Melatonin, (we sourced some from the states when my brother went on holiday) but that is fast running out but IT WORKS.
He cannot leave the house on his own as he disassociates himself from his surroundings and would just simply not see the road and cross it.
I have to help him with his personal care as he has severe Hypermobility in 7 out of 9 joints tested.
I included his timetable of interventions at school as his has special educational needs to, they do not provide IEP as there are just too many chidren, I sent his diagnosis letter, I sent the passport from school listing his problems and areas of needs, I sent the physio appointment card.
So how is it they have declined his application on the grounds that I haven't provided medical evidence.
I can no longer afford for him to attending his theatre school, (it is the only thing I can get him to leave the house for) and various visits out that he enjoys. In spetember we were going to use my daughters room as a sensory room as she goes to university, that has been knocked on the head.
I feel I have failed him because I deal with his problems myself, I don't keep going to the GPs for anything as I tried and got told no on so many occasions I have just given up with them, I have contacted a school nurse who specialises in sleep disorders as I was on the brink of desperation, and am in the process of trying a natural way of getting his melatonin to work, with an evening routine, all that it does is upsets my son, but I am trying. Maybe if i spent every waking hour at the GPs that would give me enough medical evidence
