Humbug!

Am I the only person already heartily sick of the disruption and change in routine the Christmas period brings?

With a child and partner on the spectrum..well it's making for a lot of frayed nerves..and mine were pretty shredded already.

Love to all

  • Glad we are not alone..just counting the days till we can do our own tings at home.

  • as someone with asd myself i find that wating for gifts is the most boring part of chistmas but the tv ads are a bit anoing as well

  • i agree wolfie the main problem is school. Parties, christmas lunch, nativity all the things that mean changes to Owen's routine. We can control the stuff at home but the school christmas timetable that the other children look forward to just makes Owen a cross and confused boy.

    Major melts everyday now :(

Counting the days till he's home for good.

I'm a pagan and I celebrate Yule on December 21 but I still dislike Christmas itself - the forced sentiment, unnatural jollity and rampant commercialism.

I like New Year's Eve though.

  • I know what you mean..... for me Christmas should just be a time of reflection and a nice meal!!! The consumption scares me.   Most children love it but my autistic son has no concept of what it is all about which is so very sad.

  • When I was a kid I loved Christmas. I believed in Father Christmas and would eagerly await the endless presents, chocolate, and magic. Christmas started to lose its magic for me when I reached the age of 15, the year when I stopped believing in Father Christmas (yes, I was rather late in this regard!).  Nowadays I can't stand the disruption that Christmas brings. When I was little I was not expected to enter into all the small-talk; I could play silly games with my cousins and the toys were exciting. I still enjoy receiving and giving presents, and I like the chocolates and other goodies, but apart from this, Christmas is just a bore.  The forced merriment irritates me, as does the rampant consumerism (shops start selling Christmas cards in the summer!), endless canned music, and the expectation that everyone should be nice and social - even if you do not feel social!.  So for me, CHristmas is strictly for the kids. For adults, it is just an excuse to eat too much of the wrong foods and to meet family and friends, which is not so good if you have no friends.

I feel the same way.  I can't wait for everything to get back to normal.
