Dodgy members

Your membership list says to click here to report any personal info in members' descriptions. There is a member called Alex Thompson who is using this forum to advertise fake passports! He provides email address & phone number. He has been a member for 30 weeks, it says.

Not surprising, as the link you provide to click on to report such things doesn;t work ("Page not found"). I hope soemone who knows what to do reads this.

  • Hi Longman and Technophobe23,

Hope you have both had a good Christmas Smile I've only just logged on so aplogies for the delay in getting back to you. I am referring your concerns about this to my manager.

    Thanks,

    Sofie Mod

  • Thanks Longman, kind of you to reply. I hope you had a good Xmas too.

This discovery didn't spoil things in any way: things like this simply annoy me a lot. I would like to know, from whoever is in charge of this forum, that my report has been seen and acted on appropriately. I guess people are off worl over Xmas.

  • What I think happens is that these 'organisations' register ahead of need, and they advertise on a number of interactive sites alphabetically. Their usual customers know to look under the next letter of the alphabet , or they search certain words on Google.

I found this out a year ago when annoyed by the extreme insensivity of one of the adverts (selling washing machines). I searched the strap line/title and found they were currently on half a dozen forums beginning N.  If you wait a few weeks and try the same strap line, they'll be under forums beginning Q or S.

They have to keep changing because it only takes a few days for websites to delete them (well most websites.........)

It is quite likely that Alex Thompson is obsolete. They don't bother to clear the old registerings, just make new ones next time the Ns come around.

Sadly these people are based overseas, often in countries we give aid to, and they don't care who they offend. They are just hitching a ride on available forums to reach their customers.

Merry Christmas - hope this find hasn't spoiled things for you
