PDD

Hi, I have just joined the site as I have concerns for my Grandson who is showing signs which we are finding difficult to understand and is affecting him in school, he is a Yr 3 student.  The school has put in place fortnightly counselling from CAMHS, also GP referral to CAMHS along with strategies to help him in class & IEP targets. All positive but a recent report from his class teacher is he went and slapped a Yr 5 student around the face and when questioned was unable to explain his reasons for doing this. He lacks focus in lessons constantly needing supervision to start or remain on task & finds it difficult to work or contribute in group work. He has many interests cars, lego & enjoys talking about them in length especially with adults within the family mainly. He has a tendency to shut down if he believes he is write in certain points he is talking about when you try to correct him. It appears he is unable to cope with emotions. I have read of PDD & see many traits but would like to ask if anyone could give us some advice on if we should go down the route of a GP referral to a paediatrician for a diagnosis.
