Hi, I'm James and really need to make friends with uk people plea

Hi my names James I'm new here and really need to make friends with people in the uk who hopefully live near the Birmingham area or not too far from Shrewsbury plea

I'm very lonely and find it very hard to make friends and I really need to make friends who understand and who will accept me for me I have Aspergers Syndrome and sadly my family live far from me an very rarely see/visit me plus my stepfather makes it very hard for my Mum to visit me or even talk to me on the phone and it leaves me feeling very sad and very lonely

Lots of nasty things have happened to me in my life and sadly very few nice things/experiances So I am roughly 17yrs old on the inside but physically I am 28yrs old because I've been verbally and mentally with some physical abuse since the age of 4yrs old till I managed to leave home an go into a hostel an finally get my own flat

I really need to make friends with people who have brothers or sisters with aspergers syndrome or are friends with someone like myself and who would be willing to possibly be my friend ? Plus I'd also like to make friends with people who also have aspergers syndrome or who are just normal but kind people

Hope there are some nice people out there who live in the uk who are willing to poss be my friend and chat plea ?

Thanks for everyones time

  • Hi James,

Along with ColinCat we've just been looking at what there may be available for you locally or online that could help you make friends and find a way to feel less isolated.

I did just want to quickly explain the limits of what's available through this Community. I'm afraid that the sharing of personal information, in order to deal with any risk to the service, isn't allowed right now. So you can use this discussion or any other to chat to people and make friends online, but this wouldn't be a service where you can meet people offline or chat privately.

Sorry if that's a bit disappointing but I hope you find it helpful to talk to other people online and do jump in to other people's discussions as well to chat about what other people might be talking about.

As to services that might be able to help, there are a few that could be helpful.

Asperger United, our magazine for people on the spectrum, may be interesting for you to read. Some of the issues you raise come up quite often and part of the magazine include a pen-pal page, so you may be able to exchange messages with other people

You can download the latest issue from this page -

    http://www.autism.org.uk/aspergerunited

There are also social groups that you may find helpful. There appears to currently be social groups in both Birmingham and in Shrewsbury, where you are looking for support. You just need to email the following address to discuss what may be available -

    centralsocialgroups@nas.org.uk

Our befriending service is available in some places in the UK but also has an e-befriending scheme, which can provide regular support and social contact online. Have a look at the befriending page for how to get involved.

You may also find it helpful to look at Wrong Planet. Although US based the website is a huge community of people on the spectrum and they may offer chances for people to meet up or become friends.

And finally, just wanted to suggest looking at our area on social skills, it may or may not be helpful for you but there may be tips you'll find helpful.

Mainly wanted to say hi though and hope you enjoy your time here. If you did want to discuss the isolating you're feeling over the phone then don't forget our helpline is available to speak to.

Okay then, let us know if any of that is helpful :)
