Best dog breed for ASD/PDA child?

Hi there :)

My son is 8 and adores animals. He's never happier than when he's visiting his grandma who has multiple times dogs and he's petting and hugging them. 

I feel it's time we got a dog of our own. Does anyone have any recommendation for a breed that would best suit a child with unexpected outbursts? My son has meltdowns daily but he also squeals and screeches a lot throughout the day.

  • PS: Jean Donaldson's 'The Culture Clash' is a great book for understanding your dog and avoiding problems.  I do think they are sometimes capable of more complex thought than she gives them credit for, but using this book as a guide will help you deal with your dog when they are being a 'normal' dog!
