hi everyone

Hi My name is Michelle and I have a 11yr old daughter , when she was 3 she started to have speech therapy and he also gave her an initial diagnosis of SPD (semantic pragmatic disorder ) , And a consultant from CAHMS who shes been seeing for over 2 yrs has now given her a diagnosis of ASD ...I will be attending a ASD workshop on 22nd november and also every 3rd wednesday of the month will be attending a parent support group which should be of great help...My daughter went through a stage of making herself sick and this has recently started again, she has mentioned school assemblys and how she finds it hard not to talk in them, i think this problem is adding to her anxietys and really stresses her out...any other parents who have had similar problems ,any advice would be welcome..

  • Hi Michelle,

Im not sure if it is the same in your area, but assemblys arnt compulsory here you can request she doesnt take part, if it causing her distress could the school not provide a quiet place for her to sit and read or something during it? my son went to the medical rooms at times when he couldnt cope with the activity that was happening. I know some people at my school did argue it saying he has to learn to cope out in the big wide world and couldnt just not take part in things but to be honest ive never been made to sit through an assembly in my adult life! lol! and my son would not pick a carear that involved meetings or his other high stress areas .

    good luck
