Advice needed for shotgun certificate application.

Hi.

As with many on here, my eventual diagnosis was a relief, like a weight being lifted. This, together with my life situation (children grown up = more time for myself) has allowed me to fulfil a long held wish to start clay pigeon shooting, and have started taking lessons

Obviously if I am going to do this I will need a shotgun, and for this I will also need a licence.  I am going to have to tick the box about mental health issues, and the police will then take a look at my medical records.

I know it's a bit of a long shot (no pun intended) but am just wondering if anyone on here has had experience of this sort of thing, or knows someone who has ??

My GP will hopefully support me in this, and my ex. psychologist (I've been discharged) too.   I know for myself that I am probably just as safe, if not safer with a firearm than some others as I prepare meticulously for anything I do and I have an unerring desire to do things by the book.

Any thoughts, advice, observations etc. as ever gratefully accepted.

Paul.

  • Well, I will let you know how I get, although the whole process can take up to 3 months. From what I can gather , there can be a fair bit of disparity from force to force, and the last thing I need is a knee jerk reaction as soon as they see the word 'autism'. Totally with you Steven on the strict adherence to the rules and common sense approach - to which I would add meticulous preperation as well.

  • Hi Cloudbase61

I've wondered this myself i've shot air rifles and i'm intererested in being self sufficiant, i'd also like to see how this issue its observed by Police forces? I would have thought People on the spectrum would be safer due to the strict rules and comon sence required.

    Any advice people????
