Education for foreign children

Hello everyone! My name is Audrey and I joined this group because I am an American moving to London. I am trying to get information on schools for my son that accept Aetna or United Healthcare for insurance. He will be four at the time of the move. I understand that the system is much different in the UK regarding healthcare, and that as an American, we will not qualify for things that a citizen of the UK would.  Does anyone know anything about this? Thank you so much for your time!

  • Hi!  Do you know the area where you will be living?  ie. you need to look at schooling options in that area.  I have never heard of health insurance paying for a school, as schools in the UK are free, unless of course you go the private way.  He will join Reception class if he is 4 in September.

I suggest calling the County Council's Education department, if you know where you will be living.  E.g. if you chose to live in Kent your choices of school would include all those in Kent, which include some special schools.  I think it will sort itself out when you do know where you will be living.  If you chose to live in London, I think it depends upon which Borough you live in, but some from London will be able to help there.

    Hope this helps, M.

PS. The parents are getting their choices sorted now for September.
