"New comment posted" emails that don't exist

The system seems to be producing quite a few email notifications, alerting me to new comments on threads I'm subscribed to which do not exist. Perhaps the respondent's comment didn't make it onto the system, but in that case why the email? Or the respondent deleted it, but usually there'd be evidence of this.

The latest incident was an email at 18.25 this evening - new comment posted/ the reply was to the discussion: "Asperger Syndrome and careers??". On logging on no sign of it.

The thread was started 6th March 2012, and restarted several times, last activity 18th March 2014. Then this ghost response.

    Thanks very much for raising these issues. Yes we are having some difficulties at the moment with people's comments not being published straight away. This may be why you are getting these notifications. New posts have been made but they aren't visible.

    We are currently looking into this and hope to have it addressed as soon as possible.
