What Colour is the Dress?

This dress picture is causing some debate!

(Nb swear word in caption below the dress, just in case anyone's bothered!)

My answer was light blue and gold, which apparently is not what most people are seeing!  I thought white and gold was possible, but didn't think it could be dark blue and black...

  • Sorry you didn't like it Jemstein: I find it interesting because I'm interested in how the brain works. When we see colour we don't just see A colour, we see a colour compared to the other colours around it. So the colours in this picture might be seen different by different people's brains because some take into account the background in the picture, some people might see them in comparison to other things on their screen, etc. Also different screens might make a difference.  I did wonder if being autistic might make a difference, but apparently not according to this thread!

True Colours: well named!  Apparently it is dark blue and black! Looking at it I find that hard to believe, and can't make myself actually see it in the picture.  Apparently most people see it as either white and gold or blue and black (though the articles I've read don't say if it's dark or light blue they are seeing).  I can see it as either white or pale blue easily: can you see it as anything else?

The actual dress is for sale on Amazon UK, but I can't get a link to post.  It's called 'Roman Women's Lace Detail Bodycon Dress Royal Blue'.  There are lots of spoof reviews of it now: very funny I think, but annoying if you'd prefer serious reviews I guess!
