A board just for posts by autistic people?

I'm wondering if the autistic people here would like a board on this forum where only autistic people could post. Of course anyone would be free to read it. And those who wanted to include parents and carers could post on other boards here.

Would this make us feel safer about posting and more able to discuss topics?

No risk that someone would chip in offering to cure you or try to help with no direct experience of autism.

There are so few opportunities for us to talk to each other and communicate as we wish to.

  • my thoughts:

-If you are undiagnosed, then I guess officially you are NT. Or is self-diagnosis OK?

-Someone who is unable to obtain a diagnosis may be in desperate need of help, or someone they can talk to.

-If a health professional posts here, how do we know they are not autistic? And some have been diagnosed in later life after specialising in autism (eg Sarah Hendricx)

-There is a world of difference between the experiences/life circumstances of a lot of us here. My issues (whatever the label) are very different to those of someone who is non verbal, or has a child who needs 24/7 care. Or to someone who has successful career and no financial problems.

-diagnosis won't necessarily change your views on anything. You may still cause offence to someone!

*RS - very interesting link on groupthink - thank you!
