Moved to tears

My darling boy slipped a hand written letter to me yesterday, as we parted at the College gates, and asked me to read it.

It was addressed to David Cameron and outlined the difficulties he and many others on the spectrum suffer with and asked that Mr Cameron needed to listen to what he termed as 'The silent minority' meaning the AS community, who struggle to be heard, to access support or who are targeted by a system that should be supporting them, but who is letting them down.

My son has severe disabilities with writing, (which is virtually illegible to most without having some insight into his style and script,) aswell as ASD, but his hurculian efforts in putting pen to paper, in an unsolicited action and in such detail concerning his personal experience, moved me to tears.

I looked a wreck as I wondered around Tesco, having sat to read it in the car park.

He's asked me to type a hard copy for him to send along with his letter, which I'm going to do today, but I'm always so bowled over by the bravery and courage that we on the spectrum display and the seemingly insummountable battles we face in getting support in adulthood, or even as children.

He wants to be the Martin Luther King of Autism Awareness and who am I to stand in his way!
