Dancing and yoga

Dancing is not often considered a hobby for people with Asperger's because we are usually clumsy and have coordination issues. I am clumsy myself but have not let this put me off trying a contemporary dance class. I started the class on Monday evening with support, and there were about 12 other people at the class, mainly girls in their late teens/early 20s. We danced to disco music, led by a teacher, and it was quite fast paced. I struggled to coordinate my arms and legs, but I really enjoyed it!.

My New Year's Resolution was to try new activities and I feel that since getting decent therapy for the first time ever, I am becoming more confident and flexible. I am trying not to let my Asperger's control my life and I am forcing myself into new scenarios, although I need support to achieve this.

Does anyone share my enthusiasm for dance?

I have also started a yoga class. I think that dance and yoga have helped to free up my body by removing tension and making me feel more confident.

  • Yes, I absolutely love dancing, and I love doing it mainly in night-clubs and such as people really like my dancing and they join in with me (I enjoy them joining in because they give me a challenge and occassionally have dance-offs with me). If there where not so many social pressures to succeed in life I may spend most of it dancing and doing exercise that I find enjoyable.
