Eating issues solved, hurrah!

Dear All

I hope this helps someone but we have had a wonderful and complete change around with our 16 year old autistic son's eating habits.  The variety of food he would eat was sooo limited that I worried constantly about him getting enough nutrients and it limited our ability to eat out as a family etc.  But, an amazing turn around has happened:

He started doing food technology lessons at school, partnering with his best friend.  They would cook simple recipes from Jamie Oliver, he would bring them home, I would add his favourite vegetable (broccolli), we would take a photo and to finish the process, he then felt he had to eat it for supper.  All the food was tasty, varied and delicious.

He did this following a Home Cooking BTec syllabus and gained the qualification.  He will now eat or at least try almost anything.

He now cooks his lunch, at school, every wednesday.  He came home this week declaring that he had cooked a jacket potato with BAKED BEANS and has now decided that he likes baked beans and will be eating them from now on!   I never in a million years thought I could get him to try let alone eat baked beans.

It has taken 16 years but we've got there!  Roll on the Government re introducing food technology across the board.  If it can change the eating habits of an autistic child, it can definately change the eating habits of the rest of the nation.
