visitors

Hi Jim

right now the forum tell me that we two members are present along with 19 visitors. If the forum is not yet live who are these visitors?

  • OK lets look at this from a computing point-of-view, it strikes me that there are two possibilities given that the number seems to be 19 or 20.

Firstly, it could be that the forum software is reporting that staff using the main system are visitors.

Secondly, it could be that what is being reported are search engines that have linked permanently with the forum.

In the first case, just check your ports and see if any have been enabled when they should be disabled; the other one could be a problem with permissions in that the main frame may have permission to engage with the forum as opposed to having an overview.

In the second case you will have to decide to what level crawler software will be permitted to enter the forum, I suggest that you should only let it enter to the top level of the forum and not into the messaging area itself, this will prevent possible DNS (Denial of Normal Service) attacks, e.g. mail bombs, etc.
