I think her talk did more to define what autism is not rather than what autism is. She clearly explained that autism is not being the rain man etc but didn't give any insight into what it is. The main thing that was like my experience was a mention of racing throughts. She attributed her imagination to this but a lot of racing thoughts are more about working out scenarios of actual real events rather than imaginary events. In either case this is about being locked into an internal world rather than being fully engaged with a social external world.
It is sometimes hard to separate what is the individual from what is the disorder. She very clearly demonstrates that she is much more than a pigeonholed, archetypal exemplar of the disorder.
Yeah.
I am pretty sociable when talking to friends and family, but in a scenario like a bar I am completely lost and while everyone else is enjoying themselves, I feel alone.
I feel truly unique myself. I'm intellectual but an optimistic. (most intellectuals are misanthorpic)
