Join the Autism Action Network

Hi all,

You may have seen mention of the Autism Action Network across the NAS website over the last couple of weeks. We're coming up to the closing date for applications to join so I wanted to let people know about the opportunity in the Community.

The Autism Action Network is a group of people committed to taking action in partnership with the NAS External Affairs Team, helping to lobby and campaign about local and national issues.

People who get involved will have a chance to develop campaigning skills, receive expert training and be supported in their work to raise autism awareness.

There are two levels of involvement, Ambassadors and Champions. Ambassador places are limited due to face to face training involved.

The closing date for Ambassadors in England and Northern Ireland is the 30th of September (this Friday) and for Scotland and Wales it's the 31st of October.

Lots more information is available on the Autism Action Network section of the website. If you'd like to be involved in campaigning please take a look, we'd love to have you involved.

  • Hi Sam,

Just checked and I've edited the original post - the Ambassador role, which is more involved and features on the ground training has a closing date for this year's recruitment. The other role, Champions, is unlimited and doesn't have a closing date and is their so people can see if they'd like to be involved without being too demanding.

So it may be worth trying that in the first instance. I'm sure that overtime people will leave the Ambassador roles or the network will expand so I'd imagine we'll see further recruitment in coming years, so yeah Sam, it should be possible to join in again in the future when you feel more confident. Although, the training should help you a lot with the knowledge you might worry you lack.

Anyway, have a think, I'm sure we'd love to have you involved :)

  • Hi,

As my eldest son was only diagnosed  a few months ago, i dont feel i have enough knowledge to be good at this role right now but feel strongly that it is something I would be interested in. So I wanted to ask you (sorry to bother you with it but i couldnt find it on the NAS info site) is this something that will come up again in the next few years or is it something that if i dont put myself forward now, I will not have the oppurtunity to do so again. By the way im in Scotland so havn't missed the deadline just yet.

    Any advice appreciated,

    Sam
