Aspergers and living in flat

Hi,

My daughter is getting assessed for autism, aspergers. I stay in flat, only 2 up, I have a neighbour above , side and under me. My child seems to get upset  about the neighbours banging or if she hears neighbours arguing and will be one scared. She also has a small room , bit like a show box so not much room to play in it.

I just wanted to know what's the best way to help her deal with noise. She covers her ears at times.

Thanks

Has she got an mp3 or portable cd player that she could use with headphones? If she can chose her own music/songs/audio books and use that to block out the neighbours noise then she might feel more in control and less subject to other peoples behaviour. You can different types of headphones and some of the closed in types are better at keeping out noise than others.

A small room isn't necessarily a problem if it can become a cosy refuge for her. Lots of soft furnishings, cushions and curtains will dampen the noise and could make it her own special place.
