Atoms are amazing

They are like Lego. In solution (when wet), they connect at the right temp called the habitable zone (AKA the Goldilocks zone) and make all of the amazing lifeforms we are.

It's only temporary, as planets heat up or cool down out of the said zone. Planets lose their magnetic fields and the oceans eventually dry up.

Mars was teeming with life when it had oceans.

It's a shame that people are at war, when you think about the temporary gift we have been given.

  • Besides the truth of the statements, I quite like to see poetry in science as well.

For me understanding does not remove beauty, it adds beauty.

Though imho a lot of our knowledge is refined and changed as Kuhn suggested, so that beauty comes from visualising, simplifying and compressing the world (not necessarily from truth)

A researcher has a mathematical theory about beauty (Juergen Schmidhuber, an insufferable person, I say half jokingly, but a creative genius.)

When scientists think how likely is a world similar to ours happening, they are left speechless.

This is one reason why a strange principle called "The Anthropic Principle" has had rounds in science in the last decades.

The history of atomic theory, from Leucipus and Democritus (natural philosophers from Ancient Greece) onwards, is just incredible,  I agree.
