Is Autism brain damage

There’s a forum/ vlog on Facebook by a parent of a child who is Autistic., They have a mixture of people who comment some who are Autistic themselves, some who know someone who is Autistic and others who have no experience of Autism atall.  One person commented Autism is brain damage but I never thought it was, I thought it was the brain processing the world differently?

  • There has been some brain changes found in some autistic peoples MRI brain scans for repetition and this is a brain change and not damage as such. Such a change was found on two of my MRI scans for my head which seems to suggest levels for repetition in the brain. I think that you at least  need to score in the area of repetition to be diagnosed as autistic? I am not surprised if there have been other changes noted to in other studies for other brain changes found.

    From research-

“Periventricular WMH volume was not associated with age but was associated with greater restricted repetitive behaviours. Thus, findings demonstrate that periventricular WMH volume is elevated in ASD and associated with a higher degree of repetitive behaviors and restricted interests.”
