I am really happy ! After like 3-4 years of suspecting autism, I've gone through so many different psychologists to find one that gets me, and I've researched so many places near me to find the cheapest, and I saved up over the course of a few months, and finally, after contacting the place, I now have my assessment sessions booked 3 days in a row next month! YAYYYY. What's another month on top of the 4 years yk? Plus I have my HSC exams (to my understanding, basically same as GSCEs) so next month works best anyway, I'm also attending my first protest after the second assessment session.
2 days ago I spent a few hours filling out the 8 questionnaires the psychologist had sent me. Some of those questions were so bad, I hate the insane lack of specificity in questionnaires.
I'm located in Aus for anyone wondering. The assessment is a combined autism + ADHD asessment and is AUD$2900 total and I am paying for it fully out of pocket. I'm so grateful. I hope anyone who has been waiting for a long amount of time knows that someday it'll happen, don't give up. I had a horrible psychologist who said things like "you're too sophisticated to be autistic", "you know the meaning of love so you can't be autistic", and "the only reason you'd want an ADHD diagnosis is to pop a pill". Glad to say I escaped her and now am with a much better psychologist who is accepting and willing to view and interpret some of my struggles through the AuDHD lens. I guess I won't know whether I'm AuDHD until the end of next month or ealrly Dec, but no matter what I know I'll learn more about myself, and that'll be great.
