Health and nutrition

I wondered if it would be helpful to start a thread about health and nutrition, and possible references to evidence/resources or experiences?  Im wanting to learn more about this subject.

For instance, i read that blueberries are great for brain health.   It was when looking at resources by the memory expert Jim Kwik.   He has a list of 10 top brain foods online.    I dont know if im allowed to post links?

I eat them occasionally with cereal.

Has anyone else found any information helpful?

  • I advocate intermittent fasting.

Most people do 16:8 which is 16 hours without eating with an 8 hour eating window. I would advise that as a bare mimimum. Most of that 16 hours will be when you're asleep.

Then there is 20:4 and 23:1. That is OMAD (one meal a day).

When you fast, your body recycles your damaged cells for food. It's called autophagy. Autophagy starts to really take effect after about 13 hours of fasting. The body starts to cannibalise itself and use up stored fat and target damaged cells first. Damage cells turn to cancer. It takes a lot of energy to digest food all day. When you stop eating, your body goes into clean up mode. The body will use your stored fat and turn it into ketones. It's called ketosis.

Obviously this isn't for everyone as it can lead to eating disorders. You can start by just skipping breakfast.

If you ask ChatGPT about fasting and ketones, you'll see what I'm saying.
