Just got my Diagnostic Report

Hey everyone,

Just got and read my diagnostic report, which showed I scored highly for Autism. The Autism diagnosis was not surprisinging to a large extent, but how highly i scored was if that makes sense.

Felt the report covered everything and no factual errors which was good. Still felt abit of a sad read to read my history and finally get confirmation in writing at 41.

The report is going to my GP, but theres no recomendations on it beyond that. I think i was perhaps naively hoping for abit more direction post diagnosis.

Just feels abit weird to read a report saying "he really struggles" but then bye we have tested him job done no recommendations.

is this something others have experienced? Any general advice /thoughts appreciated as feeling bit lost/deflated.

Thanks

  • Hi, congratulations on your diagnosis.

I felt very similar to you, it’s not easy to read all the things that are felt to be negative. I thought my scores would be much lower, they turned out to be quite high, it brought home how much I had been struggling, I just thought it was normal. Well it was to me.

I was given a pamphlet and no further follow up, my GP was sent a copy, that was filed the next day, I don’t think anyone even read it. I felt I had put in so much work to finally being assessed and then nothing.
I now know I’m definitely autistic but feel a bit let down. I tend to just ask questions on this forum. If you can afford it, maybe talk to a private therapist, finding one who understands autism isn’t easy though.

  • Roy, I don't know if it helps, but anyone can look up autism thereapists in the NAS directory.

  • Thanks for that, I will have a look.
