over smelling

Hi

I dont know if I'm posting this in the right section as I;m new to this but really wanted to ask other members of their experience. My son is 15 and a real great kid, full of humour. We have a great bond although testing at times.

He is diagnosed with Aspergers, OCD and auditory processing and anxiety.

It isnt really a problem as such but my son constantly wants to smell me and my husband, even his sister but mainly me. He almost cuddles like a cat. Although we all for cuddles other people find it odd and Im worried about this as he is doing it more. I know he feels safe and reasurred when he does this but just wondered had anyone else experienced this at all considering his age.??

  • Thank you, this is all a learning curve for me. What you have replied I just googled and it all makes sense and is certainly clearer to me now and so thank you for this and your reply. I try and support him and certainly wouldnt stop him, I was just a little concerned and self doubted what he was doing and how further I could support him. I think he certainly fits all of the above mentioned. This was a great help thank you

  • Thank you, I think it is most likely the negatives views of others (family) that leave you questioning at times. My son says I am his greastest counsellor and friend as he is mine.

  • I'm not fond of physical contact in general, but that said I'm not sure that others thinking the "snuggling" behaviour is odd has any relavence. I think many NT behaviours are odd but I dont try to make them desist, excepting whereas their behaviour directly references and impacts myself in a negative fashion.
