Watching the Detectives

Who are your favourite TV and literary detectives, hard and soft boiled?

Mine are Miss Marple, the Joan Hickson ones for TV, definately soft boiled and Catherine Cawood, from Happy Valley, for hard boiled.

Marcus Didious Falco, from the books by Lindsey Davis for soft boiled literary and DCl Jack Logan, for hard boiled, there are some of the most autistic coppers I've ever read, they're brilliant.

I'd also have to add Inspector Gamache, by Louise Penny for being so generally wonderful.

Parents
    • Inspector Morse
    • Lewis
    • Wallander
    • Sherlock Holmes
    • Cadfael

I don't like the violent TV films but I do like true crime, forensics and the docus showing police catching criminals - the latter give me a thrill and remind me that there is some justice in the world!

  • I'm not a true crime fan, I prefer my crime and my detectives fictional, although I do like it that good guys always win.

I'd forgotten about Wallander, I've enjoyed the reboot of Van Der Valk, which is in a similar vein.

I like Kate Ellis's, Wesley Peterson, novel, theres an archaelogical mystery running along side and frequently entwining with the current day one. I love Elly Griffith's, Dr Ruth Galloway books too, intelligent and gentle, the sort of books you can sink into and want to revisit just because I want to hang out with the characters.

Is it just me that wants to hang out with fictional people?
