Watching the Detectives

Who are your favourite TV and literary detectives, hard and soft boiled?

Mine are Miss Marple, the Joan Hickson ones for TV, definately soft boiled and Catherine Cawood, from Happy Valley, for hard boiled.

Marcus Didious Falco, from the books by Lindsey Davis for soft boiled literary and DCl Jack Logan, for hard boiled, there are some of the most autistic coppers I've ever read, they're brilliant.

I'd also have to add Inspector Gamache, by Louise Penny for being so generally wonderful.

Parents
  • Detective Cordelia Cupp from The Residence (light-hearted murder mystery). I like that on Wikipedia, someone has gone to the trouble of listing all the birds she mentions, with when mentioned and link to their wiki page.

    Ludwig (again light-hearted murder mystery).

  • I've not heard of Cordelia Cupp.

I watched the first Ludwig and couldn't get on with it.

I do like Death in Paradise, its total brain custard.

I didn't like Life on Mars, I found it really predictable and uncomfortable, although I think I must be the only person to feel like this, as everyone else seems to love it.
