Modern media is too overstimulating

I was watching a video essay on the new film "Forgotten Island", and immediately I found the animation, the editing and cinematography of said film was just nothing but pure garish noise thrown into the face of the viewer, as if the makers of the film were so desperate to keep audience's attentions that felt they had to practically scream directly in their faces every five seconds, with constant jumpcuts and shouting. Then my mother showed me a reel for a recipe for stir fry chicken. Again, the editing style was constantly jumpcutting between each step before my brain even had time to process the instructions. it made my head physically hurt.

I feel like it's all to do with people being addicted to their phones these days that everything is edited in this... extremely distracting way, but I can't help but feel it's harmful. It certainly overstimulated me to the point where I needed to have a little bit of quiet time

  • Totally agree, especially after a long day.

HOWEVER! I will say one of my absolutely favorite movies is Speed Racer (08), which is an absolute CGI fever dream from start to glorious finish. I think my draw to that film (besides Speed being depicted as a bit different from peers (COULD THEY BE SUGGESTING HE HAS ADHD HMMMM??)) is actually sensory seeking. Granted, even my favorite movie can overwhelm me lol

  • Yes I agree with everything you have said… the pop ups drive me insane.

  • I saw that my humax box said it wouldn't work for BBC Iplayer after the end of the month, is this related to freeview being scrapped?

Will I have to get one of those ROKU tellies instead? A friend had one and it's a pain in the bum!

  • shouldn't they only consider it essential for the poor or elderly people

That's a bit Dickens'-like. I'll get my gruel bowl ready..

  • I find YouTube and sometimes even Netflix etc to be overwhelming but over the air tv is fine problem is BBC want to scrap Freeview and whilst people say they shouldn't they only consider it essential for the poor or elderly people but with my audhd needs I need proper tv even though I also use online stuff

I find using a smart tv ect to watch normal tv is a faff

  • I find that with shopping websites too and all he pop ups asking if you want to sign up to get 20% off your first order and once you've fought your way through all that, they don't have anything you want to buy. I quite often just leave a website if its to noisy, then theres the ones I leave half way through the check out process because something sgone wrong and then they send me emails asking me to complete my purchase.

I don't watch internet video stuff, I find it to annoying, theres often music that sets my teeth on edge and adverts every minute and a half.

  • Last night I looked on the Next website and the home screen is constantly changing to different images while I am trying to g to click on the department I wanted to see. It made me feel really uncomfortable, and coupled with being very tired and overstimulated I had to switch off and go to bed.
