Blowing my own trumpet

I had two pieces of really good news last week – news that gave my chronic imposter syndrome a bit of a beating. Over the past few years, and particularly since I began to suspect I was autistic, I have come to rely more and more on photography as a way of relaxing and de-stressing. Reluctantly, and after a lot of persuasion from my mentor, I recently started to submit some of my photographs to exhibitions and competitions.

The first piece of good news was that this photograph has been accepted by the Glasgow Gallery of Photography for an exhibition on the theme of ‘Shape’:

And the other piece of even better news was that two of my images have been nominated for Exposure One’s Photographer of the Year: Non-Professional award. One is in the Architecture category and the other is in Conceptual. If you’re interested, you can see them here. And if you like them, you have the opportunity to vote for them in their People’s Vote award.

  • Thanks for all the positive comments. And thanks too to anyone who has voted.

For anyone who is wondering about the above photograph: it is a close-up of a Caithness Glass paperweight. It’s a fascinating object; moving it slightly produces a completely different image (in fact, this was just the first of a sequence of five).
