Maybe Scam calls

I've been getting a lot of calls recently,  all different numbers that I don't recognise. 

I categorise them into three groups.

  1. It's a missed call that stops before I get a chance to answer.
  2. I answer and they hang up immediately. 
  3. I answer and a voice tells me to add this number to whatsapp.  And they hang up.

Can someone explain to me the purpose of these calls.

  • I’m actually in a very lucky position in regards to scam calls, especially since it’s midterm election season here and political advertisers are going nuts with cold calls right now. I’m lucky because I recently moved states, so that means whenever I have a call coming in from [my previous state]’s area code, that definitely means it is a scam call. If a call from [my current state]’s area code, then I know there is at least a higher chance it’s a real person.

    Apparently the Republicans in [my current state] haven’t realized I’m here yet lol
