Maybe Scam calls

I've been getting a lot of calls recently,  all different numbers that I don't recognise. 

I categorise them into three groups.

  1. It's a missed call that stops before I get a chance to answer.
  2. I answer and they hang up immediately. 
  3. I answer and a voice tells me to add this number to whatsapp.  And they hang up.

Can someone explain to me the purpose of these calls.

  • If they are calling randomly, they are trying to see if the number is live. If you answer, it indicates to them, that the number is active. You can try registering your number on the TPS. It should stop cold calls, but doesn't stop scam calls.
