Maybe Scam calls

I've been getting a lot of calls recently,  all different numbers that I don't recognise. 

I categorise them into three groups.

  1. It's a missed call that stops before I get a chance to answer.
  2. I answer and they hang up immediately. 
  3. I answer and a voice tells me to add this number to whatsapp.  And they hang up.

Can someone explain to me the purpose of these calls.

  • It's just three stages of the same scam, Robert124. If you do call back you're connected to a premium rate line, charged by the minute.

    The "add this number to WhatsApp" ones are the next step. They want you to move the conversation onto WhatsApp, where they can try to steal your account by tricking you into handing over your verification code, or run a fake job or investment scam.

    Never call back an unknown number, never add one to WhatsApp, and text the number to seven seven two six to get it blocked.
