A world where I have a kitchen filled with the contents of the Lakeland catalogue and bits of John Lewis kitchenware dept, and a herd of grandchildren and other small people I can teach to cook and bake.

Do any of you have these somewhat strange alternative worlds? Mine was triggered by the front cover of a Lakeland catalogue years ago, I thought how nice that life looks, a life where buying new kitchen equipment, nice bowls and pans would be worth it, educational even. Oh well, at least the plum jam is nearly ready

  • My alternative worlds are based around what I wanted to do when I was growing up.

    One is being a singer - always loved singing as a child - so in that one I am a really good singer who has had a life meeting other famous singers such as David Bowie, David Byrne and Annie Lennox.

    Another is being a successful writer, now retired and living on the royalties from my books in a lovely cottage by the sea.

    And another is being a successful actor, having met interesting and funny actors in the UK and America, such as Ruth Jones & Jennifer Aniston.
