How do you get to do that job....?

I was thinking with all our sensitivites with smells, hearing, colour vision and stuff, why we aren't more in demand for jobs where those things are assets?

I mean how do you get to become a perfumier, a wine taster, paint colour designer. These things just pop up on tv and I sort of take them for granted, but how do you get these jobs, are there colleges that teach them? Can you imagine being with your schools careers adviser and being asked what you want to do and saying you want to be a perfumier, if you even knew such a thing existed? I could just imagine the look that says 'you're not taking this seriously, so we'll put you down for shop work'.

  • There's a few jobs that I either wonder how did you get into that or what made you want to get into that.

I kind of get wine taster - I would assume you would already work in that industry and realise that is a strength of yours and go from there. But paint colour designer is rather specific, I have no idea how you actually end up there.

Did you know that a dice quality inspector is an actual thing? They inspect and roll dice in casinos etc to ensure that it isn't biased. How does one get into a job like that? Careers adviser would definitely think you were having them on for that one.

But I also wonder about people that work in funeral homes and that kind of thing. Absolutely no disrespect to anyone that does, it's an important job but it intrigues me. Did they just need a job and take it? Is it a family business? Or was that something they really wanted to do? I can't imagine being 15/16 and thinking yes that is what I want to do but maybe that's just me.
