TV repeats - good and bad. What would you like to watch?

Sad, sad, sad that Monty Don is leaving Gardener's World at the end of the year. I wonder who'll take over? This and Beechgrove Garden are such joyous programmes to look forward to each week.

Good news that Small Prophets and Ann Droid are getting new series.  I hope the end has come for same-format competitions where 1 contestant has to 'leave' every week - I like the programmes but this sits uncomfortably. What would you like to watch in the future?

  • Oh no! I can't say I'm surprised though, he's been having more and more time out and doing other things for the last couple of years. I hope they find another permanent host and don't change it to more of a magazine programe with different bits by different people everyweek. I mean I know they've always don't this, but it dosen't feel bitty. I'm guessing Carol Klein wouldn't want to take over although I think she'd be great, she's so knowlegable. Maybe Rekka, I like her experiementation and slightly more scientific approach. My guess is Adam Frost will take over.

I remember Edge of Darkness too and how good it was.

  • No, I don't think Carol would take it on, though her knowledge of propagation is excellent and I like her as a presenter. Adam is not cheery enough for me! Francis hasn't got sufficient 'presence'. Rekha is knowledgeable about veg but sounds stilted [her voice]. No, I don't like the bitty format - much prefer one presenter as it was in the days of Arthur Billett and Percy Thrower.

Have you read Gay Search's book, 'Gardeners' World Through the Years? I highly recommend this for all gardening enthusiasts. She describes all the presenters of the programme up to Monty and there are a lot of colour images of the gardens. And only c. £3.50!
